Critical thinking skills tests

Thinking Oasis has partnered with the “Technical Company for educational and management consultation”, which is Jordan’s licensed provider for “Insight Assessments“. The services by the technical group provide several solutions that evaluate critical thinking skills among school students, university students, and business professionals. Such research-based tests focus mainly on measuring critical thinking skills. These can be used for admission purposes or for pre- and post-assessment of any educational program’s participants.
The test have been translated to Arabic, with content also modified to match the local culture.

The tests are customized for age group and occupation, and include the following:

1– Critical Thinking Primary Test – 1 (CTPT-1)

The CTPT-1 is designed for educators and teachers as a tool which quickly measures a number of fundamental skills involved in Critical Thinking. The test is mainly used to assess the deductive and inferential ability of a student. It also identifies the student’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses.

The CTPT-1 is designed to be used with KG students through 2nd grade for the purpose of:

  •  Assessing an individual’s or group’s critical thinking and reasoning skills.
  •  Evaluating and comparing Critical Thinking skills development.
  • Evaluating and showcasing critical thinking ability for program admission.

The CTPT-1 is designed as a 10-item multiple choice format test. Test items present necessary informational content using charts, graphs and images. Success on this testing tool depends on the test-taker’s deductive and inferential reasoning ability.
The skills assessed in the CTPT-1 are:

  •  Inferential (pattern identification).
  •  Deductive/Inferential.
  • Deductive – Observation.
  •  Inferential – Analogy.
  • Inferential – Classification

Duration: 10 minutes. – Number of Questions: 10 – Format: Paper & Pencil Languages: English & Arabic

2- Critical Thinking Primary Test – 2 (CTPT-2)

The CTPT-2 is designed for educators and teachers as a tool which quickly measures a number of fundamental skills involved in Critical Thinking. The test is mainly used to assess the deductive and inferential ability of a student. It also identifies the student’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses.

The CTPT-2 is designed to be used with students from grade 3 -6 for the purpose of:

  •  Assessing an individual’s or group’s Critical Thinking and reasoning skills.
  • Evaluating and comparing Critical Thinking skills development.
  • Evaluating and showcasing Critical Thinking ability for program admission.

The CTPT-2 is designed as a 20-item multiple choice format test. Test items present necessary informational content using charts, graphs and images. Success on this testing tool depends on the test-taker’s deductive and inferential reasoning ability.

The skills assessed in the CTPT-2 are:

  •  Deduction.
  •  Inferential/Deductive Classification.
  •  Inferential Sequence (Identify a pattern).
  •  Inferential Figural Analogy.
  •  Inferential Verbal Analogy.

Duration: 20 minutes. – Number of Questions: 20 – Format: Paper & Pencil. – Languages: English & Arabic.

3- The California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST- M20)

The CCTST- M20 is designed for children and adolescents in the 7 – 12 grades for measuring the general critical thinking skills. The CCTST- M20 has been used in North America, Asia, Europe and other parts of the world.
The CCTST-M20 is designed to measure an individual’s or group’s basic reasoning skills for purposes such as educational learning outcomes assessment or to gather program evaluation on reasoning and critical thinking skills research data.
The CCTST- M20 presents the needed information for test takers using both diagrammatic and text-based contexts. The items range from those requiring an analysis of the meaning of a given sentence to those requiring much more complex integration of critical thinking skills. Some items require that the correct inference be drawn from a set of assumptions; some require that an inference which is provided be properly evaluated. Some require that the proper evaluation not only be determined, but also justified by the most cogent reason. Others require that objections to stated inferences be evaluated, and that the evaluation of these objections then be justified. Additional items are quantitative in nature and some require students to analyze charts and graphs.
The CCTST-M20 is designed as a 20 – item multiple choice format test. Items present necessary informational content in text-based and diagrammatic formats.
Questions invite tests takers to:

  •  Draw inference.
  • Make interpretations.
  • Analyze information.
  •  Identify claims and reasons.
  •  Evaluate the quality of arguments.

Duration: 45 Minutes ـــ Total: 20 Questions ـــ Format: Online & Paper ـــ Languages: English & Arabic

4- The California Measure of Mental Motivation – CM3

The desire to learn is as important to success in school as are the skills to learn.
Motivated students are more likely to engage problems, apply knowledge and achieve results.
The CM3 is designed to measure the degree to which an individual is cognitively engaged and mentally motivated toward intellectual activities that involve reasoning. The CM3 targets four main dispositional aspects of critical thinking: learning orientation, mental focus, cognitive integrity, and creative problem solving.

Different levels of the CM3 include different numbers of questions, with Level I having 25 items agree-disagree style questions and taking about 15-20 minutes to administer, And LEVEL II having 72 items takes about the same amount of time for children to complete.

The tests are used by students as follows:

  • LEVEL IA – Grades KG,1 and 2
  • LEVEL IB – Grades 3-5.
  •  LEVEL II – Grades 6-12.

The four scales of the CM3 – all levels – are:

  •  Mental Focus.
  •  Learning Orientation.
  • Creative Problem Solving.
  • Cognitive Integrity.

Level I → Duration: 20 Minutes . Number of Questions: 25 . Format: Paper & Pencil.
Languages: English & Arabic.

Level II→ Duration: 20 Minutes . Number of Questions: 72 . Format: Paper & Pencil.
